Two Black-glazed spouted vessels
1st & 2nd Jar from the left in the Main Picture
19th-century American utility pottery vessel.
Height: ~6–6½ inches
Glaze: Albany slip / iron-rich black
Features:
· Applied pour spout
· Wide fill opening
· Heavy utilitarian form
Interpretation
This is a syrup / molasses / oil kettle, designed to be filled from the top and poured through the side spout. The glaze and form are textbook mid-to-late 19th century.
Condition
· Extensive glaze wear and pitting (normal)
· No obvious structural cracks
· Spout intact (important)
Date: c. 1860–1890
